There are three main types of laboratory sinks; complete stainless steel worktops with integral bowls, inset steel sinks and steel sit-on sinks. These are all produced in 316 grade stainless steel, which is used for its acid and chemical resistance. The complete worktop can include a composition of integral bowls in a variety of sizes. Steel is also a resilient material meaning it doesn’t have to be replaced often, and is therefore a cost efficient material to use.

Why stainless steel is so popular for laboratory sinks

Steel is a very popular material for laboratory sinks; this is due to its relatively low initial cost plus its long life making the initial outlay more cost-effective over the longer term. It has a very high degree of durability and is robust enough to withstand long-term heavy use. It is an easy surface to clean, washing with just liquid soap and water is all that is required, meaning cleaning is easy in hygienic environments (e.g. hospitals and laboratories). Stainless steel is also popular due to its neutral colour, and attractive aesthetic finish, so can be matched with most decors. Another excellent feature of stainless steel is that it is light-weight, given its level of strength and durability.
